Just because the winter cold and snow has arrived doesn’t mean that families need to be stuck inside all day and all night. Instead, everyone should add another layer or two of clothing and embrace the festivities that the winter months bring to the British Columbia area.
Here are 6 fun winter activities for families in BC:
- Rossland Winter Carnival
The Rossland Winter Carnival has been popular for over one hundred years and it happens every year in late January. Some of the best events include the Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race, the dogsled rides, snow volleyball, Slocan Ice Sculptures, and the parade. The children’s faces will light up at the kid’s carnival and the whole family will be entertained at the Variety Show.
- World Ski & Snowboard Festival
This festival is held in the middle of April and it is a huge ten-day gathering for winter sports. While the skiing and snowboarding events are watched by large crowds, many others will listen to the dozens of the free concerts, watch the fashion show, and view the photography display.
- Family Après at Whistler Olympic Plaza
This family event will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays this season and it offers free kids activities and entertainment. Parents can enjoy a warm beverage while their children are having fun participating in that evening’s outdoor activities.
- Ice Skating on the Robson Square Ice Rink
No one needs to travel all the way to Rockefeller Center in New York City for some ice skating. Instead, families can go to the Robson Square Ice Rink in downtown Vancouver for some ice skating during the winter months.
- BC Family Day
BC Family Day is always held on the second Monday in February, which is different from the territories that either celebrate it on the third Monday or not at all. There is always a plethora of things to do throughout BC on this day, but some of the most popular include hopping on the Sea to Sky Gondola, visiting the Vancouver Aquarium, and stopping by any of the Vancouver attractions for kids. Most places offer special activities or rates for this special family day!
- Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival
The Hot Chocolate Festival will be held from January 20th until February 14th this year, so families will have plenty of time to sample lots of hot chocolate. And, who doesn’t love hot chocolate?? There are dozens of chocolate makers that arrive at this event to share more than sixty different types of hot chocolate flavors. Families may find that they have a few new favorites at the end of their hot chocolate adventures.
Families will love all their options this winter season, and no one will feel like they need to stay home glued to the television watching the same stuff. Instead, everyone can grab their hats and gloves, and venture out to see what adventures await them each and every day as they spend time together having fun.
